The motorist, Walter Thompson, 30, was driving his SUV when he struck and killed a man that was unloading a beer truck, pinning him against a CTA bus.

Victim Charles Kimbrough, 45, and a co-worker were unloading the truck at around 3 p.m. when a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe crashed into a 1997 Ford Aerostar. The vehicle then hit Kimbrough, pinning him against a CTA bus that was picking up passengers.

Thompson initially tried to flee from the scene but was followed and eventually arrested for DUI.

Kimbrough was transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn after the accident, where he was later pronounced dead at 3:53 p.m. Three other victims, including the bus’ driver and a passenger, were hospitalized with minor injuries incurred from the DUI crash.

Thompson was charged with several citations, including DUI, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a revoked/suspended license. Authorities said they are seeking to press felony charges against him.
