MEMPHIS, Tennessee — A Shelby County deputy has been charged with driving under the influence.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the department received a call on Monday afternoon regarding a reckless motorist that was possibly driving under the influence. Other deputies that were in the area saw a vehicle that matched the description in a pharmacy parking lot and investigated.
Deputies then identified the driver as 42-year-old William Speight, a patrolman in Shelby County’s Homeland Security Unit.
The department said Speight refused to submit to a blood alcohol test and was then arrested and charged with DUI and public intoxication.
Speight has been suspended with pay pending the results of an investigation.
