GAINESVILLE, Florida — University of Florida baseball player Bryson Smith was arrested for driving under the influence and has been suspended from the team.

Smith, 22, was arrested for DUI on Sunday night. Leading coach for the team, Kevin O’Sullivan, announced that Smith would be suspended from his position as senior center fielder on Monday afternoon.

“I am aware of the charges against our baseball student-athlete and we take these very seriously,” O’Sullivan said in a statement.
Smith was stopped by a Gainesville Police Department officer at 11:50 p.m. on Sunday night at 1600 NW 23rd St. after an officer saw him making two wide turns and drifting into a curb on NW 16th Avenue.

Smith told the officer that he was on his way to pick up a friend and drank one beer. He was issued a field sobriety test but performed poorly. The officer also noted that Smith “had bloodshot and glassy eyes.”

The officer then arrested Smith and took him to the Alachua County Jail after he refused to give a breath sample.

Smith has since been released from custody.

Driving under the influence is a serious charge that can lead to life-long negative consequences for those who are found guilty. Having a DUI on your record can prevent you from getting a job, can get you fired from your current occupation and can also affect you financially. Penalties for a DUI include having your license suspended, having to install an interlock ignition device and worst of all, being sent to prison. However, there is still help for your case. You may be able to have your charges lowered or even wiped out altogether. Contact a DUI lawyer immediately for help with your case.

DUI attorneys investigate the incident and speak to police and witnesses regarding the case. They will then determine if you were unfairly charged and if there is any derogatory or fraudulent evidence against you, your paralegal will ensure that it is thrown out. Many times, motorists are forced to take breathalyzer tests unjustly, are arrested on suspicion alone or have their blood alcohol content percentage measured with an uncalibrated device. Trust your DUI lawyer to make sure that your case ends with the best possible outcome.

Don’t wait another minute before contacting an elite DUI attorney for help with your charges. Your paralegal will ensure that your rights are upheld and will always make themselves available to you should you ever have any questions or concerns. Turn to a top legal professional now for assistance.
